Pomegranates (Everybody Come Outside!) Everybody Come Outside Right off the bat you can tell these guys are musicians. Each song on the album is uniquely different but equally good. It's as though they have found what they were looking for in contrast to their two previous albums. I espacially enjoy the depth of the sound; none of the instruments are competing for attention, but complimenting eachother as the shoe gazey vocals ice the cake. Everybody Come Outside! will release on April 14.
Preorder – Amazon Odawas (The Blue Depths) Harmless Lover's Discourse Do you remember that movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, The Beach? When they see the beach for the first time, Porcelain by Moby comes on and the hair on my arms stand straight up. As cheesy as that just sounded, this song could easily work in the same scenario. I can't compare Odawas musically to anything else, but some have said that Michael Tapscott's voice is reminiscent of Neil Young. Whatever, you'll be hard pressed to call Odawas anything but original artists. Lovin' the synths.
Buy – Amazon iTunes Sebastien Grainger And The Mountains By Cover of Night (Fire Fight) I don't know how I let Sebastien Grainger slip passed me. He's one half of the band, Death From Above 1979. We talked about DFA1979 in issue 2 if you'd like a recap. I'm so excited to see Sebastien is making music on his own. I can hear Arcade Fire in there just as soon as it's gone again. You'll notice that his solo debut album is missing some of the angst and experimental beats from DFA, but I don't seem to miss it too much. He has a unique spin on a fairly well covered genre of music. I can't wait to see what his next album will sound like.
Buy – Amazon iTunes Titus Andronicus (The Airing Of Grievances) Arms Against Atrophy I think Titus Andronicus sums it up better than I ever could. Here's an excerpt from Arms Against Atrophy. "The word "love" gets thrown around a lot near graduation, so please don't whisper sweet nothings in my ear when the sound of shredding vocal chords is what I want to hear, because we're going to San Francisco and I forgot to wear some flowers in my hair". Buy – Amazon iTunes Miniature Tigers (Tell It To The Volcano) Dino Damage (Album Version Remastered) I saw Miniature Tigers with Bishop Allen at the Hi-Dive last Saturday. I was very pleased that they were as good live as they are on their album, Tell It To The Volcano. Miniature Tigers are easy to like with songs that are easy to listen to. I had the opportunity to meet with the lead singer who is a really nice guy. I wish them great success. Buy their entire album especially Dino Damage, Cannibal Queen and The Wolf. I didn't want to ruin the night, so I left before Bishop Allen came on. No offense, they're just not my cup-o-tea.
Buy – Amazon iTunes Röyksopp (Junior) This Must Be It So I know this is the third time I've mentioned Karin Dreijer (The Knife and Fever Ray), but I really like her. I really like Röyksopp and when you put the two together, how can you go wrong? It's a rhetorical question, you can't go wrong. Nearly four years after their previous album Melody A.M., Junior arrives with a different spin from previous albums. The Norwegian duo wrote, produced and performed all eleven tracks doling out the vocals, shared by Robyn, Lykke Li and the amazing Karin Dreijer. Even though Junior just came out, expect to see another album titled Senior late 2009. I also recommend Happy Up Here .
