Hey people,

Something that bothers me is this ridiculous cassette revival. I don't want to buy cassettes and if that's the only way to get the music, I'll pass. I don't mind the sound of muted, dirty, lo-fi recordings, but come on, that can be emulated in the studio. Cassette tapes sucked back in the day, and they suck even more now. I don't even own a tape deck and have no intentions of buying one. Wanna be cool? Don't do that. Records are fairly inexpensive to produce and still sound excellent. I found one good reason for buying a cassette HERE.

The other thing that bothers me is limited edition presses. It's like telling the world, I only want 500 people to buy my music, and the rest can simply steal it off the internet. At least make the MP3s available to purchase. Do you agree? Disagree? Let me know HERE. I'll post the winning comments on Facebook. I feel better.

enjoy — Ryan

Atlas Sound - Walkabout (With Noah Lennox)
Atlas Sound - My Halo

Atlas Sound BUY | Amazon iconicon

Bradford Cox (Deerhunter) released the sophomore album for solo project Atlas Sound this month. Many of the tracks from this album were stolen and leaked a while ago (boo). If you heard some of those tracks, they might sound different from the album version, so give these a listen. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Someone give that man an ironic t-shirt to wear STAT!

Active Child - Voice Of An Old Friend

Active Child Available on cassette at some point. ugh

Active Child (Pat Grossi) has that dirty beat-up cassette lo-fi sound that hit this summer. If you like Washed Out, Neon Indian, Memory Tapes or Small Black (see below), you'll like Active Child. You can hear more tracks on his MySpace page. I really enjoy Voice Of An Old Friend. Speaking of Small Black, keep reading.

Small Black - Despicable Dogs
Small Black - Weird Machines
Small Black - Bad Lover
Small Black - Despicable Dogs (Washed Out remix)

Small Black BUY | Amazon iconicon

If you like Washed Out, Neon Indian, Memory Tapes or Active Child (see above), you'll like Small Black. They're a Brooklyn duo (Ryan Heyner & Josh Kolenik) that make wicked-addictive synthy lo-fi songs. Be careful, Despicable Dogs can get stuck in your head. The Washed Out remix of the song is pretty good too. The Small Black EP is their debut album. Get it over at Insound.

Apteka - Traitors
Apteka - She Is Riots
Apteka - It's A Wilderness
Apteka - Cicada Song

Apteka BUY | INSOUND

Apteka found me on MySpace. I love when great bands find me, rather than the other way around. This Chicago-based group has the goods. If you like The Jesus and Mary Chain or Janes Addiction or Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, you'll definitely like these guys. Buy their album over at Insound.

Summer Camp - Ghost Train
Summer Camp - I Only Have Eyes For You

Summer Camp I don't know much about this band except from what they've said about themselves on their MySpace page... which was created on Oct. 9. "We met at summer camp when we were fourteen. The nights went on forever and we thought we would never get old." What I've heard is good. Thank GvB for finding them or at least finding them for me. They're Swedish, it's just hard to tell from the picture (Sorry Summer Camp, I couldn't resist). Check back for more info.

Nuaia - Various

NuaiaLISTEN HERE

It's another Swedish/Danish band that I don't know much about. "Nuaia will release their self-titled debut album on October 26 and are previewing a number of tracks at MySpace." [via Its A Trap] I'll try to give you more information about the band in the coming weeks. They're well worth checking out.
