CompUSA

I decided to highlight Pomegranates (Cincinnati) again because I don't think they've gotten enough press for their latest album, 'Everybody Come Outside'. I saw them several months ago at Lions Lair (Hi Dive was double booked so Pomegranates got the boot). The Hi Dive redeemed themselves by inviting them to come and play again. The lineup consisted of Pomegranates as the opening band, then Anni Rossi, who is an extremely talented musician, and headlining was Headlights. All three bands were amazing and deserved the headlining spot. Alas, someone has to play first and this time it was Pomegranates. The last time I saw Pomegranates, lead vocalist Joey Cook was sick, so he was struggling through parts of the set. This time the band was great. They were energetic and put on a spectacular performance. Get to shows on time is all I have to say. Additional photos from the show can be found on the ArtistRoster Flickr page.

Secrets by Headlights

Headlights BUY | Amazon iconicon

Headlights have a familiar sound that I think most people would enjoy. They are an indie band from Champaign Illinois and have been together in some form or another since 2004. Vocals are shared by Erin Fein (vocals, keyboards, tamborine) and Tristan Wraight (vocals, guitar, bass). The funnest person to watch though was Nick Sanborn (bass) who grooved around the stage the entire set. Pics are HERE

Violet Eyes by My Gold Mask

"My Gold Mask are two people [from Chicago] who like to make music together. Gretta Rochelle sings and plays drums. Jack Armondo plays a nylon string electric guitar." Look for an EP due out at the end of November. From what I've read, their live performance is pretty awesome. Did anybody catch them at CMJ?

Until We Bleed (With Lykke Li) by Kleerup

Kleerup and Lykke Li BUY | Amazon iconicon

"Andreas Kleerup is a Swedish record producer, drummer, and member of the Swedish group The Meat Boys, from Stockholm, Sweden." I hope I don't need to tell you who Lykke Li is. She's from Sweden as well. Current TV just did a cool feature on her. This track highlights both Kleerup and Lykke Li's abilities as musicians. It's a great little pop song.

Cone Of Light by The Almighty Defenders

The Almighty DefendersBUY | Amazon iconicon

"The Almighty Defenders is a supergroup consisting of members from the Black Lips and The King Khan & BBQ Show. The band was formed in February 2009 in Berlin, Germany." The Black Lips tour was cancelled because of shenanigans in India and in an attempt to hide out, the Lips stayed with King Khan in Berlin. During those 8 days of drunken debauchery, they laid down 11 tracks with King Khan & BBQ Show.
I hear a noticeable resemblance to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. They've got the same flavor. King Khan & BBQ Show are on tour now, so be sure to see them when they come to your town.

Swissex Lover by Fight Bite

Fight BiteBUY | Amazon iconicon

Fight Bite is an electropop band from Denton, Texas. Their debut album, ‘Emerald Eyes’ was self-released in July 2008. Swissex Lover reminds me of Cocteau Twins iconminus the gobble dee gook. This song is old, but it took a while for it to sink in. Make sure you listen to the track at least three times.
