CompUSA

BordoBello ad AIGA Colorado is proud to host the second annual Bordo Bello skateboard art auction at Andenken Gallery located at 2990 Larimer St, Denver. They will be auctioning off decks designed by over 200 local artists and designers on Friday December 11, 2009, starting at 6pm. Proceeds benefit two youth-focused design and arts charities, VSA Arts of Colorado’s Access Gallery & Youth Design. Bordo Bello has organized mentorship teams between established local designers and artists, and students from high schools and colleges in the Colorado area. The boards created by these partnerships will be included in the auction as well as many individual artist’s works. Tickets can be purchased at the Bordo Bello web site for $15 before the event and $20 at the door. Boards start at $25. Everyone who comes will be entered to win a collection of door prizes like a comp ticket to the HOW design conference, a 4-pack of rafting tickets, 4-pack of Loveland ski area tickets, Veer Merchandise, A Positiv Skateboard, and a whole lot more! The evening will be filled with sick entertainment including live graffiti by West High School Mural Club, music provided by ArtistRoster.com, and a live skate demo from the BC Surf & Sport Colorado Skate Team. Drinks will be provided by Amp Energy Drinks, Izze sodas, and beer will be $2. RSVP HERE.

I hope to see some of the Colorado readers there. It should be a fun time. I am designing a skate board for the auction as well.

On to the music portion.

enjoy – Ryan

Talamak by Toro Y Moi

Feel It All by Washed Out (Toro Y Moi Remix)

Toro Y Moi BUY | Carpark Records
Toro Y Moi made it onto Stereogum's top 25 most highly anticipated albums of 2010. If you like Washed Out, which seems highly probable, you'll like Toro Y Moi. He's co-creator of Washed Out, so you'll recognize some of his signature sounds. The album isn't available until February 23, 2010, but if you pay attention, the label leaks MP3s on occasion.

I Can Talk by Two Door Cinema Club

Something Good Can Work by Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club BUY | Rough Trade
Sorry, these tracks are so new, I don't even have an album cover image yet or a release date. The band hopes to have a full length available early 2010. Two Door Cinema Club makes super-accessible pop music. What does that mean? They aren't breaking new ground by any means, but who says they have to? Interesting tidbit, they perform without a drummer. The beat machine is all they need. According to reviews, the lack of live percussion isn't distracting, just a bit weird for the first couple minutes.

Diamonds To Shake by Drummer

Mature Fantasy by Drummer

Drummer BUY | Amazon iconicon

I'm a sucker for anything Black Keys related. Black Keys drummer, Patrick Carney plays bass for the group while other Ohio friends round out the roster. Feel Good Together is the groups debut album. So while Dan Auerbach is out supporting his own solo album, his band mate is keeping himself busy as well.

Hoochie Coo by Blakroc

Blakroc BUY | Amazon iconicon
Speaking of Black Keys... Blakroc is a super group comprised of the Black Keys and exclusive members of the hip-hop community including Mos Def, the late O.D.B., RZA, Raekwon and Jim Jones. Turns out, hip-hop entrepreneur Damon Dash, concocted the whole thing, calling the Black Keys out of the blue and arranging a meeting between the band and Jim Jones. From there, other collaborators came out of the woodworks. What makes this a successful mash up between the two genres is the fact that hip-hop plays the major role, with bluesy Black Keys stylings spicing the tracks to perfection. Make sure you take a look at the video below. It features Mos Def and Jim Jones recording Hoochie Coo in the studio.

Scantron-Remix by Tape Deck Mountain

Tape Deck MountainBUY | Amazon iconicon

Self categorized as mid-fi, and I'm not sure if I agree with that or not. The album was released in November via Lefse. We wrote about Tape Deck Mountain a while back when Lefse was giving away a sampler album, and Scantron some how slipped through our fingers. Give it a listen, but make sure you listen past the first minute, it gets better and better as the song goes on.

Fade To Black by MNDR

C.L.U.B. by MNDR

MNDRBUY | iconicon

MNDR put on a great show at CMJ this year, but very little has been written about Amanda Warner. According to her MySpace profile, she makes "Ass Destroying Beats". The tracks are produced by Peter Wade.

Modern Drift by Efterklang

EfterklangBUY | Amazon iconicon

Efterklang is a band from Denmark having recently signed with 4AD. Good for them, considering this is the first track from Efterklang that I can relate to. I encourage you to listen to their other albums and tell me if it's even the same group. I'm not convinced.

Norway by Beach House

Beach HouseBUY | January 26, 2010 via Sub Pop

With so much hype built up around Beach House, I'm just going to let you listen to the track, and you can make up your own mind whether you like it or not. Beach House also made Stereogum's 25 most anticipated albums of 2010.
