Gay Human Bones I went to a "Harlem" show at Larimer Lounge in Denver late last year. The poor guys had a show in Salt Lake the night before and had to sleep under the stars. It didn't help Michael Coomers voice and the performance was rather lackluster. On top of that, I was one of about ten people in the entire place. They were begging for a warm place to stay and a couple "friendly girls" offered to put them up for the night. The next time they come to town I think that their situation will be different. "Harlem" recently signed to indie giant, "Matador Records" and their latest album, "Hippies" is receiving a lot of praise. I can't speak for the entire album, but "Gay Human Bones" sure is catchy. Pictures from the last time they were in Denver are HERE. MP3 Gay Human Bones |

Breakneck Speed "Tokyo Police Club" was not happy with the 2008 album "Elephant Shell" considering the hype surrounding their debut album, "A Lesson In Crime". They admit to having spent additional time on the latest album, "Champs" due out in June. The band suggests that "Champs" will be more guitar influenced. They started writing the album after their tour ended in 2008. Expect to see them on tour this year.

Spanish Sahara I'm the first person to throw my nose in the air to any band that makes a song that's seven minutes long. It had better be damn good is all I'm saying. "Spanish Sahara" could last two hours and it would be fine with me. The track begins in silence, progressing into a sparse drum beat and guitar strums, then Yannis Philippakis begins to sing and the the story comes to life. It continues this progression of volume and instrumentation throughout the 6:51, mixing so many different sounds and melodies that it's impossible to keep track. Let's disregard the lyrics all together, listening to the song as though the voice was just another instrument. I like to listen to music that way anyway because I can create a story of my own. This track is perfect for such a scenario. An entire movie could be based on the instrumentation of this track alone. MP3 Spanish Sahara |

Excuses I can't tell you how many times I've read how great "The Morning Benders" are live. It's as if they knew I missed the show. For now I'll just have to live with the web videos with crappy sound quality until they make their way back to town. Speaking of web videos, take a look at the video with the crappy audio to the right.

Passive Idol "Twin Tigers" combine nearly every sub genre of Rock & Roll into "Passive Idol". I'm guessing the band's influences are all over the place. If I was to guess, "My Bloody Valentine" and "Echo And The Bunnymen" are a couple of them. It's a hot mess of grunge, garage, metal, new wave (insert other genres here), and yet it seems to work without giving me a headache. I'm willing to bet they don't give you a headache either. Fading World "Malachai" is a Bristol-based duo of "Scott" and "Gee". The album was produced by "Geoff Barrow"(Portishead) and is loved by "Lily Allen". It's difficult to characterize this band. Some have said it's a combination of post-trip-hop, 60's garage rock and early "Beck". If I were to guess, you'd much rather just listen to the song and make up your own mind. Well how appropriate that a "play" button is less than an inch away. Click it. MP3 Fading World

Daydreaming (Helsinki 78-82 remix) If I were a DJ, I would want this track in my arsenal. You notice that people are starting to walk off the dance floor and you have to do something pronto. So what do you do? Throw this track on and give yourself a big pat on the back for saving the day. Good job, I'm proud of you. MP3 Daydreaming

Travelin' Girl So the album art is a little offensive. Life's not fair. You'll be OK. "The Bitters" aren't for everybody, but if you give "Travelin' Girl" a chance, I'm guessing you'll like it. If you don't, I'm pretty sure the "The Bitters" won't be bitter. Sorry, I couldn't resist. MP3 Travelin' Girl |

The Cold World Melts If this band was around twenty years ago, I would have been all about them. That's not to say that they don't belong in this century, it's just that they would have taken the "death rock" world by storm. If you like spooky music, I suggest giving "Soft Metals" a listen. But be warned, it might make you smile, which is bad for you image. |
