Night
by Zola Jesus
Zola Jesus

Nika Roza aka "Zola Jesus" was recommended last week through her other band "Nika & Rory". Nika trained to be an opera singer from a young age. She's also about to graduate from college with a double major in French and Philosophy. Some how she found the time to tour last year with Fever Ray. Unlike her first album, the latest album "Stridulum" was professionally produced so her unique voice can be truly appreciated. The self proclaimed "goth girl" is about to blow it up.

Rill Rill & Tell 'Em
by Sleigh Bells
Sleigh Bells

We recommended an extremely rough "Crown On The Ground" demo last fall. The tracks unending energy and over-the-top riffs were what drew me to the duo. It's great to hear that the new tracks off of their debut album "Treats" retain that energy. Sleigh Bells have reinvented LOUD. Loud, but good.

Living In America
by DOM
DOM

DOM has only been a band for a few months. That said, there isn't a lot of information about them. The lead singer who goes by "DOM" is only 22, and according to Pitchfork, refuses to give them his last name. The undisputable fact is that DOM are masters of the hook. "Living In America" starts out as a French House inspired tune, then the fuzzed out guitars roll in transforming it into an electro-hodgepodge of awesome. "It's so sexy, to be living in America".

Leave Everywhere
by Toro Y Moi
Toro Y Moi

The latest track from Chaz Bundick (aka Toro Y Moi) "Leave Everywhere" is off a 7" due out on July 20. He's best known for his signature chill wave/lofi sound. "Leave Everywhere" demonstrates Chaz's ability to survive beyond the chillwave movement. On "Leave Everywhere" he's abandoned laptops and synths for traditional instruments. The ridiculous amounts of reverb let you know that the track is from 2010 not 1960.

Brightest Minds
by Department Of Eagles
Department Of Eagles

Department of Eagles is the critically acclaimed side project of Grizzly Bear's Daniel Rossen. The band's actually been around longer than Grizzly Bear, so maybe "side project" isn't appropriate. "Brightest Minds" is a track from the archives dating between 2003 and 2006. The archives will be available for purchase on July 20.

Caesar
by Ty Segall
Ty Segall

Bay area's Ty Segall uses a classic recipe for "Caesar". Fuzzy bass guitar, unique vocals and an awesome Jerry Lee Lewis style piano solo at the end. I wouldn't say that the track is groundbreaking, but the combination of basic instruments in the right hands can make a standout track.

Dear God 2.0
by The Roots
The Roots

Like previous Roots albums, the number of vocal contributors on "How I Got Over" is impressive. "Dear God 2.0" is a remake from the Monsters Of Folk track featuring Jim James of "My Morning Jacket". "How I Got Over" will be released on June 22. I'd be so nervous as a musical guest on Jimmy Fallon, knowing that The Roots are right there listening to every single note. I'm still amazed that they're the house band.

Five Little Rooms
by Menomena
Menomena

They claim the name isn't derived from The Muppet Show's "Mah Ná Mah Ná", but it seems more than coincidental that they share the pronunciation. This is the first track released from their latest LP "Mines". It definitely has an ominous tone, but still manages to bounce you along with a brassy backing beat. The rest of the "Mines" LP will be released on July 27th.

I Say Fever
by Ramona Falls
Ramona Falls

Credited with inventing the Digital Loop Recorder, Brent Knopf of Menomena later formed Ramona Falls while waiting to record the groups third album. The delay gave him time to collaborate with 35 of his fellow artists from Portland and New York on the album "Intuit". Like a child of divorce, he's splitting time between the bands. I'd take the opportunity to catch him with either band if you're given the chance.

Internet Warrior
(The Depreciation Guild Remix)
by Oh No Ono
Oh No Ono

Remixed by the Brooklyn threesome of The Depreciation Guild. This track from the Danish band Oh No Ono departs from the sing-song psychedelic feel of the original and gains more of a driving cadence and etherial sound. I liked the original, but I think this remix gives the song a little more structure.

Outside
by Milagres
Milagres

This Brooklyn based five piece seems to be longing to get in touch with nature. Outside is a harmoniously understated track from their new LP "Seven Summits". This melancholy acoustic track uses strumming guitars and soft vocals to bestow the virtues of life outdoors. They're in the process of recording a full-length album to release later this year.

Weapons For War
by A Lull
A Lull

From their 7" release "Weapons For War/Spread It All Around", Weapons For War is just a taste of what the band is planning for their full length offering, "Confetti". Chicago's A Lull delivers a pulsing sound rich with an almost endless array of layered loops and melodies. The song is full of pops and chirps that give it a restless hurried sense of anticipation. I hope the rest of the album delivers at this level.

This New Technology
by Midnight Juggernauts
Midnight Juggernauts

This Melbourne, Australia trio has been described (pretty accurately) as "progressive dance meets cosmic film scores", "slasher-flick disco". This New Technology delivers on both fronts. Keep an eye out for their new album "The Crystal Axis".

Hoola (House Of David Remix)
by Archie Bronson Outfit
Archie Bronson Outfit

Archie Bronson Outfit was introduced in our March 10th newsletter. Hoola is an echoey psychedelic single from their album "Coconut". This Hoola remix is from a pair of recently released 12"s with additional mixes from Moscow, MCDE and 6th Borough Project.
