You And I by Washed Out "You and I" is the 4th free single from "The Adult Swim Singles Program" (brought to you by KIA). Has chill wave sold out, or is it just so good that the mass population can appreciate it too? Does being included on "The Adult Swim Singles Program" mean you've sold out. I don't think so. Ask one of your co-workers if they've heard of "Washed Out", "Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti" or "Neon Indian". I'm guessing they haven't heard of any of them. Divisive by We Have Band The band, a trio of ex-record label employees, create tracks with the dance floor in mind. To be honest, I've been sitting on this track for some time. I just wasn't in love with it. As with the "Viva Voce" track I discussed further up the list, I kept it in my current rotation. I'd here the track maybe once a month, not thinking much of it. The song popped up recently and I instantly changed my mind about it. I can't speak for the rest of the album, but give "Divisive" a good listen. It won me over. PLAY MP3 Divisive BUY \|
Bang Bang Bang ft. Q-Tip & MNDR by Mark Ronson It's nice to hear Mark Ronson back at it. It's been quite a while since we've heard a single track from the producer. He announced the name of his new band, "The Business Intl." and leaked this track off of his forthcoming album due out this fall. It features MNDR and Q-Tip. PLAY MP3 Bang Bang Bang
Miami Knights by Mahjongg We gave Mahjongg a listen based on a recommendation. These guys are out there. The Chicago based group will be performing at Hi-Dive in Denver on July 11. If you want to feel normal, go read the Mahjongg bio on their label site, K Records. I'm really digging "Miami Knights". Celestica (Bear In Heaven remix) by Crystal Castles Two of my favorite bands have teamed up to create an awesome remix. The Bear In Heaven version has deviated pretty far from the original, which on it's own is an excellent track. It's one of my favorite remixes so far this year. Your World Is Night by Sleep Over The Austin group is a fairly new creation. They'll be splitting a 7" with fellow "Light Lodge" artists "Pure Ecstasy". Stereogum refers to their sound as "a nice warping-carnival effect and distracted drum pulse into the electro-lullaby genre". Sounds good to me. PLAY MP3 Your World Is Night
Somersault (Zero 7 ft. MF Doom) by Danger Mouse I wouldn't be surprised if many hadn't heard of Danger Mouse until this year. He's been involved in so many awesome projects over the last year including "Black Keys" and "Broken Bells" with "Shins" front man James Mercer, we decided to give you a taste of what Danger Mouse was up to three years ago. Check out this awesome Zero 7/MF Doom track that Danger Mouse so eloquently remixed. If you're new to an artist, it pays to go back into their discography and listen to some of their older tracks. What's In It For by Avi Buffalo Avi, short for Avigdor ZahnerIsenberg, started out taking lessons from local Long Beach blues teachers. After many years of practice and additional band members, Avi Buffalo was formed. The young group have roots in actual training which is refreshing. At this point, most if not all of the band members have graduated from high school and the only thing the press will be talking about is their ability rather than their age. Gone Blind by Porcelain Raft Porcelain Raft is the one-man effort of Mauro R. As you would expect, he performs all of the instruments including guitars and synthesizers, plus a number of overlayed vocal textures to create his dream-pop sound. Devotion by Viva Voce Devotion comes from the album "Rose City". It's been around for quite a while now, and I was never sure why it didn't get the press it deserved. We recommended "Octavio" over a year ago which is also a great track. It's the little surprises throughout the day that make me happy. "Devotion" is one of those surprises. I Met Up With A King by First Aid Kit Klara and Johanna Soderberg are sisters from Sweden who were discovered and signed by "The Knife's" own "Rabid Records". They went on tour with "Fever Ray" and are just finishing up their North American tour. I'm very impressed by the maturity in the lyrics and song writing coming from the 17 and 20 year old sisters. "I Met Up With A King" is one of those tracks that you could listen to again and again. Their debut release, "The Big Black and The Blue" is available on iTunes. PLAY MP3 I Met Up With A King BUY \|
