Tornado Tornado is a beautiful song often overlooked by the other, more notable tracks on Jónsi's (Sigur Rós frontman) debut solo album titled "Go" released in April. Other memorable tracks from the album include "Go Do", "Animal Arithmetic", and "Boy Lilikoi" (a track we recommended HERE). His tracks have a way of making everything that sucks in the world, go away for a few minutes. His solo work explores more of a pop-centric genre when compared to his work in Sigur Rós, although die hard fans will enjoy the solo effort. PLAY MP3 |

Bright Lit Blue Skies We've featured him before, and this track from his latest album "Before Today" is one destined for our best of 2010 list. It's a cover of a Rockin' Ramrods' song from the late 60's. This latest album is full of 70s and 80s pop influences. He'll be in Denver with his band Haunted Graffiti on July 17th at the Bluebird.

Here Sometimes Kazu Makino and her twin band-mates are finally back with a new track. We not sure where they've been since their last album "23" was released in 2007. In keeping with their mysterious ways, they haven't announced a release date for their latest album. After listening to Here Sometimes, we can only assume it'll be worth the wait.

Youth Brooklyn/North Carolina band has only been a band since the fall of 2009. In that short time they've made a name for themselves, despite the near saturation of the "Brooklyn Beach" sound. I'm not sure how long this whole "Lo-Fi" thing is gonna last, but for now I'm anxious to hear more. Beach Fossils will be at the Hi-Dive in Denver on July 20 and based on the live videos I've seen online, it's gonna be a great show.

Bright Bright Bright The name of the band provides a mental image of what you might expect from a band with such a suggestive name. With a folk and string inspired sound, the band delves into the darker side of song writing and music composition. Dark Dark Dark incorporates numerous instruments including an accordion, piano, banjo, cello and standup bass. A vocal similarity between lead singer Nona Marie Invie and Regina Spektor is noticeable. I wonder if anyone has ever told her that? PLAY MP3

Miami Spider The Welsh foursome is better known for their high energy performances where the live drums and guitar riffs are layered over electro bleeps and bloops. Some of their tracks take a minute or two before you get into the real meat and potatoes, but it's worth the wait. From the tracks I've heard, they follow the recipe of progression, slowly adding instrumentation as the song continues. I enjoy the importance that the band places on the drums, especially the fact that such an electro-heavy band still uses traditional percussion instruments instead of a drum machine. The electric guitar was also a nice surprise as I listened to Miami Spider for the first time. PLAY MP3

You Can't Hurt You Anymore This is one of the older tracks we like to serve up from time to time. We figure, if you haven't heard it before, it's like buying a used car... it's new to you. You Can't Hurt You Anymore is from 2007's "Funf". Sporting doctor's masks at their live shows, these lads from Liverpool are also serving up a new album called "Bubblegum" in October. PLAY MP3 |

Exhibit C I'm not sure at what point I became a fan of hip hop, but it happened and there's nothing I can do at this point. Jay Electronica was featured in a Hood Internet mashup with Toro Y Moi earlier this month HERE. Do you like that we add a bit of hip hop to the mix? Let me know HERE. PLAY MP3

Caesar ft. Robyn (Miike Snow remix) Eliot or Coco Sumner is the daughter of former Police front man Sting. She teams up with Scandinavian female vocalist Robyn on this track. We've highlighted Miike Snow's work over and over, but he does not disappoint with this electro remix of Caesar. It's currently on a limited 10", but we'll be sure to pass the details along as soon as we hear about a full length album.

Let Go The group consists of producer and long-time friend Alan Astor, Greg and Darin Bresnitz (The Twins) and Terry Diabolik. The group was formed out of various solo efforts to create a disco super group. Shortly after Punches formation, they created some buzz over their remixed Au Revoire Simone track, "Only". I'm a bit frustrated that I couldn't find more info about the group, but they've been quoted as saying, "We are just three guys who love hanging out, playing music and meeting new people." It doesn't sound like their too worried about getting a full length together. Either way, the foursome has a winner with "Let Go". PLAY MP3

NYE Dinosaur Bones have a familiar indie rock sound, but they manage to do it better than most by adding traditional rock instruments and mixing in a little pop for flavor. The band is on a summer tour now, unfortunately Denver isn't currently one of their stops. They released a 7" single earlier this year, but I still prefer the 2008 track "NYE".

Bad Vibrations Having some of the most consistent albums under their belts, Black Angels finish up their latest full length album "Phosphene Dream" which will be available this August. We got a taste of what their new album might sound like when they were featured on UNKLE's latest collaborative release "Where Did The Night Fall". With the latest leak off Phosphene Dream, we truly get a sense of what the trademark psychedelic doom and gloom band has been up to. In previous years, Black Angels have performed with Black Keys, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Warlocks, The Raveonettes and Wolfmother among others. They've also been compared to Black Mountain, which I would take as a compliment. PLAY MP3 |

Maybe Artist and professional kidnapper, Enright now sets his sights on the music industry. He shocked the world once with his movie "Times Will Never Be The Same" then twice with his unique business, "Videogames Adventure Services (VAS) where he kidnapped people (sounds like it was voluntary kidnapping), but now he's shocking us again with his music abilities. He and his girlfriend split sides of the album "Torben", each one taking the roll of lead singer. The album is named after their son (Torben obviously). The release date has been set for June 29 and you can pre-order it at Factory 25.

Clarissa Where you're from has a lot to do with how you are perceived. In the case of Volta Cab (producer Konstantyn Isaew from Ulyanovsk) his sound surprised me. In his own words, "Volta Cab comes from Mother Russia and brings us into the neon future. Into the times where space rockets are the most widespread type of transport. Into the times where teachers at your child's' school are Martians and the chief-cooks of your favorite restaurant are from Mercury. Into the times when the war is over and everyone in the universe loves one another in the interstellar dance to the synth pop music heavily influenced by the 1980's pop-culture." I guess that thousands of years from now we'll still like 80's pop music. That's comforting. PLAY MP3
