Kites
by Geographer
Geographer

The San Francisco band collides 8-bit sounding elctro-bleeps with an eclectic arrangement of instruments packed with the seemingly effortless voice of Mike Deni. The song starts in an anthemic video-game-style sound track, slowly progressing in it's energy and addition of instrumentation. The constant driving the hodgepodge they call "Kites" is the vocal delivery that stitches the whole mess together.

Time Traveller
by DBL Dragon
DBL Dragon

After sifting through endless information about the 80's Nintendo classic Double Dragon, I couldn't find much about this band. Apparently, they're a trio from Vancouver who are slated to play a few Canadian music festivals in September. I wish I could tell you more, but I'm sure we'll hear more from them in the future.

Window
by PVT (formerly Pivot)
PVT formerly Pivot

I originally heard the song "Window" a few weeks ago, but lost it in the shuffle. I tried to remember the name of the artist with no avail. During my regular hunt for cool music, I landed on the blog Nialler9 and there it was! I'm so happy to present to you PVT, formerly know as Pivot. The group is set release their latest album this month via Merge Records and I expect PVT to blow up. If you like labelmates Battles, you'll like PVT.

Year Of Silence
by Crystal Castles
Crystal Castles II

We recommended "Celestica" off the "Crystal Castes II" album earlier this year. It's a song that most people can find appealing. It's got a nice rhythm and it's not confrontational. "Year Of Silence" is the opposite of that. It's noisy and aggressive. You either hate it or you love it. Give it a listen and tell me which side you're on HERE.

Lifted (Le Chev Reunion Tour remix)
by Lemonade
Lemonade

I fell in love with the "Le Chev Reunion Tour Remix" of "Lifted" as soon as I heard those synth horns at 4 seconds. The original version was taken to a party, drank too much, stayed far too long and embarrassed it's friends who it now has to apologize to. Le Chev is the project of Fischerspooner's Michael Cheever. The original plus six accompanying remixes are available on iTunes now.

Austere
by The Joy Formidable
The Joy Formidable

Welsh by way of London, Joy Formidable delivered this track from "A Balloon Called Moaning" in February of last year. They jump from slow paced harmonious vocals to gritty energy in one quick cymbal crash that delivers on the anticipation derived from the jumpy grinding guitar. They're set to release another full length album in the coming year.

Fine
by yU
yU

The MC from Diamond District decided to release his solo project "Before Taxes" back in April. Fine is a standout in my opinion. It's a smooth track that casually jumps between a series of chopped loops. The combination conveys a sense of finding a peaceful calm in the middle of an uneasy chaotic situation. YU has release the entire album online for free. I'd scoop it up before he changes his mind.

Here We Go Magic

This track is from their latest album "Pigeons". It's full of smooth rhythmic layers that give the track a spacey psychedelic sound. The constant up and down of each layered sound makes it feel as if you're riding an imaginary wave through space. Check them out at the Hi-Dive on July 20th.

Overthrill

German producer Sebastien Bentler, aka Overthrill released the Upperworld EP in early April of this year. He's been compared to French legends "Justice" because of the similar hard hitting beats and Overthrill's "French" sound. I like how the beats are mixed with unique samples and his tracks make me want to dance. The tracks "Rookie" and "Brahma" are soon-to-be-regulars in our dj sets.

Dance The Way I Feel
by Ou Est Le Swimming Pool
Ou Est Le Swimming Pool

Being dubbed the UK's version of Passion Pit, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool just wants you to dance the way you feel. These guys from Camden, England seemed poised to be the next big electro-synthpop powerhouse. They're releasing their full length album "The Golden Years" on June 30th.

Modern Eyes (Bit Funk remix)
by Jump Jump Dance Dance
Jump Jump Dance Dance

Deciding against ambiguity, Jump Jump Dance Dance chose a name that expressed exactly what they want you to do. This electro-rock pair from Australia got a disco style remix to Modern Eyes from Bit Funk on this track. It actually makes it more danceable than the original.

Les Sins

Les Sins is the side project of "Chaz Bundick" aka "Toro Y Moi". I'm a bit annoyed that it's his project simply for the fact that I'm starting to sound like a super-fan. The young twenty-something is consistently putting out good music and I can't help but post about every single one. Les Sins is Chaz' dive into danceable tracks. The project isn't set for a full length, but you shouldn't worry because I don't have the restraint to keep it to myself if I hear anything.

Destiny (Fred Falke remix)
by Zero 7
Zero 7

Zero 7 may have been around for a decade, but they just released a best of compilation on June 28th. There shouldn't be much there we haven't heard, but it's nice to have it all in one place. Included with the compilation is a bonus disk full of remixes. This one is from French house DJ Fred Falke. I particularly like remixes like this that don't overpower the intentions of the original.

Your Body Is A Machine
(The Aspirins For My Children remix)
by The Good Natured
The Good Natured

"Your Body Is A Machine" is easily one of those tracks I can listen to repeatedly without getting tired of it. "Aspirins For My Children" take the song out of the studio and onto the dance floor, a very ominous dance floor no less. The remixed version has an edgier live quality that makes it perfect for shameless body-jerkin' at 1 in the morning.
